to identify the weaknesses and flaws in the Articles for these things can lead to unjust and unwanted consequences in the future . Apparently there were objections raised in the content of the Articles , and that some of these objections were founded on the observation that some words and phrases in the Articles are doubted as to their appropriateness and implications . For one , it can be observed that some parts of the Articles were seemingly vague and were constricted ' in the sense that they tend to narrow down important aspects such as the collection of taxes and the measures to make alterations to the Articles once changes are sought (Rosen ,

For the part of James Madison , there were several main flaws in the Articles of Confederation that were alarming , or threatened the very existence and purpose of the Articles first and foremost . For instance James Madison saw the dangers of divided republics or factions ' which stand against the rights of others or the interests of the entire community . In one of his written essays in The Federalist specifically Federalist No . 10 ' Madison argues that , in to guard the entire citizens from the harms of these groups of individuals who have contradicting interests to others , it is a better decision to create a large republic that will safeguard the citizenry from the harms of other individual states . In essence , the government should not allow for partisanship and should not allow certain factions to unduly override the vested rights and interests of others
Another important criticism of Madison in response to the Articles of Confederation through his essays in The Federalist is his argument that the government should be a hybrid of a national and federal constitution . That is , instead of giving precedence to every separate state over the larger republic , the government should be balanced and should be federal in some aspects and republican in some other instances . This argument can be readily observed in his essay Federalist No . 39 ' where he further describes a republic governed by three basic principles : the derivation of the power from the people 's consent , elected representatives as government administrators , and the limitation on the terms of service of the elected representatives of the people (Kobylka and Carter ,
