`Let America be America again

This poem was written in the depressed state of mid-1930s . It was the period when black-Americans faced the hardships of racial discrimination (Let America be `America the Beautiful : The Medison Times . During this time most of the Americans were going through the cruelty and harshness of racism . The poet , Langston Hughes , has depicted the conservative philosophy in the first part of poem where he has shown that the best part lies in one 's past and the past of Black Negroes of America

was not so well . The bitterness as well as hopelessness that was faced by minorities , women , aged , and lower status holders is expressed in the poem (Let America Be America Again . America is considered to be the `land of free ' and every citizen is supposed to get equal rights and justice here . But according to the poet there was no freedom and equality given to him and people like him , who came to this country seeking the American dream of freedom , which got never fulfilled . For most people , America has not been able to satisfy the promises it represents and has failed to become an ideal for all (Let America Be America Again . In the poem , the poet , Langston Hughes speaks for all the races in America and emotionally expresses the calamities faced by them like killing , shooting , rape , sexism and slavery

In spite of all the racial injustice and failure of expectations , the poet represents the progressive ideology in the second half , showing the hope that the best days are still to come and America will soon become what it is expected to be by the people living there . The present government 's social movements against racism and sexism will give equality and justice to all the races . Benefit of social wages and social insurance also provide civil rights and develops sense of security in the citizens
