American Civil Liberties Union
Introduction The American civil liberty union is a non-profit organization in New York and its main goal is towards the extension of constitutional liberties . It works in corporation with the legal system in to ensure that its goal have been achieved .ACLU takes part in more than 6 ,000 cases and these cases are usually divided in to three sections that is the freedom of expression , due process for the law for everyone and lastly equality before the law . In addition to the three cases , this non- profit organization runs many projects

and all these projects are all devoted to the civil liberties in the specific areas . Some of these projects include the following , Aids campaign . Here this organization carries out nationwide campaign to ensure that all those who are affected by the disease are not neglected but should be seen as people belonging to the same nation . It also protects the rights of those infected with the disease hence ensuring that these people have the right to participate in the nation building and are not neglected . It also carries out the initiative of helping the orphans as a result of death by their parents who were victims of this desease .Capital punishment is also another project by ACLU . It also carries out campaigns on the issue of capital punishment and whether it 's right or not , it is defending on the law for capital punishment since people should not be killed but a similar punishment should be given to this person instead of just killing Drug policy . In this case it carries out campaign on the legitimization of certain drugs . This is because some of the drugs have serious effects and hence should never be legalized at all . Other areas of concern include lesbian and gay rights , immigrant 's rights , litigation , and prisoner 's rights , voting rights , reproductive freedom and lastly women 's right (Lawyers Committee for Human Rights 2003
The organization employs more that 300 hundred people allover the country . It has received support from many people including the attorneys working pro bono .The organization has also many supporters who support the organization through funds and other necessary materials . It is a legalized non- profit organization which has its head office at the Washington D .C . It has also a southern regional office which is situated at the Atlanta , Georgia . The southern office in Atlanta is basically concerned with voting and discrimination cases .ACLU has also its independently run affiliates which are usually located at every state to ensure that all its services can reach the big masses .ACLU board of directors is composed of 83 members who usually comes from every states Since it 's a non governmental organization , the government doesn 't give it any support but it has been kept running by donations and individual funds which usually come from the members of the organization (Lawyers Committee for Human Rights , 2003
