`Agent ZigZag` by Ben Macintyre

Agent Zigzag : A True Story of Nazi Espionage , Love and Betrayal ' by Ben Macintyre is a biography on Eddie Chapman a British double agent and his experiences during World War II . He had various occupations before the war that were somewhat shady and was in jail on the Channel Island in Jersey waiting for trial when the war started and Germany took over One of his astounding jobs was that of a thief . He seemed to be a well like man and very popular with the women . In 1939 he was arrested and

jailed . He had learned some German from one of his many girlfriends and this helped in his famous trek in becoming a double agent

It was when the Germans took over the Island that Mr . Chapman decided that he wanted to be a spy for them in to get out of jail along with a friend and began training for this new career . His first mission as a German spy was to go into England and blow up De Havilland aircraft factory . After being parachuted into England he then surrendered to the authorities working with the M15 security intelligence agency and later became a double agent . An elaborate plan was made to make him appear as if he had done what the Germans wanted and when he went back to Germany the Germans awarded him with the Iron Cross . This hoax was made by a film studio and the Germans believed it with full faith . He was then ed to return to England , where he in turn gave wrong information to the Germans who believed Chapman to be true . Just a few of his s were to gain information on bombs and he was to attempt to sink a British freighter

Eddie Chapman wrote his autobiography in 1966 and later made a movie Macintyre used many sources to write this book including Chapman 's widow . The story at first seemed unbelievable to me , but after looking over the sources and researching a little I felt confident that Macintyre was telling the correct story . It is definitely a very colorful and descriptive book that is very well written . I kept reading because of the action . I would recommend this book for the general public as well as for any WWII buff or historian
