African American males and Higher Education
As racism against African Americans is done since many years , the African American male has been targeted more often . King (2000 ) performed a study on the similar with the title Gender Equity in Higher Education Are Male Students at a Disadvantage ' A quite significant disparity was found in his study . This study showed that more African American males are dropping out of the college and their rate of completion of degree is becoming worsening . It seems that African American males are facing more challenged situations in their higher education than any other student groups including African American males
Although violent crime rate is decreasing throughout the United States the rate of murders of African American males is increasing in accordance with history . D . F . Hawkins wrote a text on the relevant in 1986 titled `Homicide among Black Americans . This text outlined that the rate of homicide among African American males is five times greater than the rate of homicide among white Americans . Homicide is the main cause of death of African American males with the age range from 15 to 34 years . It was also reported that the rate of suicide among African American males of age rate from 15 to 24 has increased threefold since 1960
American has implemented several incarceration policies but these policies are not found to have any consistent effect on African American males because the number of African American males to get imprisoned and disenfranchised has been increased . Ziedenberg and Schiraldi (1999 performed a research study titled `Punishing Decade : Prison and Jail Estimates at the Millennium . He reported in his study that every third African American males whose age is between 20 to 29 years is kept in prison , on probation or on parole . He also found that the chances of being imprisoned in his life of an African American male of age 20 years are 29 where as white males of the same age have just 4 chances to be kept in prison in his life
African American males do not get sufficient high school preparation in their classrooms and for that matter , their overall mean academic performance becomes very low . African American males are left behind in their academic achievements from their counterpart groups in the basic subject areas . They are more kept in the classrooms that are designated for the students with learning disabilities as compared to the classrooms in which talented and gifted students are kept...
