In all societies of the world and throughout history , minority groups have always been treated unequally . The American society and other societies in the developed world have a very bad history in relation to how they have treated minority groups . The minority groups includes the people of color and other minority races , women , religious and cultural minorities , age minorities , people with disabilities and individuals with certain sexual

br orientation . The most notable form of injustices that have been committed against minority groups in the society is racial discrimination . People of color in the American society continue to suffer from historical injustices in the slavery era and the subsequent formal discrimination through the Jim Crow laws (Morel , 2001 . Due to these injustices , majority of the people of color are less privileged in the society . In addition to racisms , women , individuals with certain sexual orientations , the disabled and other minorities in the society have also suffered from social injustices . In the recent past due to the high rate of racial , ethnic or religious discrimination especially in selection and recruitment of workers in the private and public sector affirmative action has evolved into an important policy . It involves factoring the racial , gender and religious consideration in order to benefit the under privileged members of the society who have suffered from historical injustices .
