Lesson 4 .1

One of my teachers in elementary school had retired , at 65 years old he is still active and likes to keep on learning . After his retirement he found out that not teaching and meeting kids made him dull and useless . So he volunteered to teach high school students in an after school program . This teacher had suffered early hearing loss he had been struggling with this condition and tried to put off wearing a hearing aid the longest time . At times when he could not hear , he just smiled

and nods his head , but it made him look funny and kids were making jokes about it . At first , he tried lip reading , but with the many slang and garbled words of his students , he could not read it . One day he decided to just get a hearing aid , and now he is happy to be able to teach again effectively and to continue learning new things as he had to teach to a different age group , from young children to teenagers

Adult learners generally go back to school because they feel the need for more learning as a means of personal growth or the fulfillment of an earlier dream or ambition . One of my neighbors is 70 years old and she had just recently enrolled in a writing course . She is a widow and never remarried , she had to work for her children and then her grandchildren She says she had always wanted to be a writer...
