ONE ART
'One Art ' by Elizabeth Bishop The poem revolves around the concept of loss . A theme such as this usually evokes a sad tone . Loss , like pain , is a universal concept because nothing in this world lasts forever . Everybody losses something Everybody feels pain The author begins with the line : The art of losing isn 't hard to master ' From here , the author gives an idea of the poem 's message : to master the art of losing . The author follows it up with the line : so many things seem filled with the intent

- to be lost ' In this verse the author tells us that many things ' are meant to be lost . Just like what was mentioned in the previous paragraph , nothing in this world lasts forever . People live and people die . Beauty and fame fades away We rise and we fall
The author wants to control the natural feeling of pain one that results from a loss . She wanted to sound as strong as possible , trying to convince the reader that the art of losing isn 't hard to master . As the poem progresses , the author explains how one can master the so called art : .Lose something every day .Then practice losing farther ' She tells us that we have to get used to losing something so that we could master the art of losing . As we proceed towards the end of the poem , we would notice that there is a growing importance in the losses ' that she mentioned . In the first stanza , she used the words no disaster and in the last paragraph , she used like disaster In the first four stanzas , she was only referring to objects she lost and places that she left . In the fifth stanza , she mentioned two cities loved ones , and realms . She said that she misses them , although she suddenly pulls back saying that it wasn 't a disaster ' The final paragraph was quite different , as her tone became more tentative and understated . In here , she sounded ironic because she said that losing this person ( you ) is not "too hard " to master , and then reluctantly admitted that losing that person was closest to disaster . This someone ' must be the most important person in her life
