With 3-7 of school aged children being diagnosed ( Data Statistics CDC ) each year , Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Dis has grown more common over the last 20 years than at any time in its history . As more children are diagnosed and more are also being treated with Ritalin and related stimulant therapy , the question is posed for doctors researchers and parents as to whether or not ADHD is becoming an easy diagnosis rather

than the proper diagnosis . Too often , children who don 't have ADHD are having their behavioral or simple childlike behavior diagnosed and treated as ADHD . With the number of diagnosis up and the age when Ritalin is prescribed lower than ever , the side effects and long term effects of the drug should be more in the spotlight than ever Despite studies showing the dangers of long term Ritalin use and the over diagnoses highlighted by the media , 56 of all children diagnosed in 2003 were treated with the drug ( Data Statistics ' CDC . Rather than combining therapy to help manage long-term problems stemming from ADHD , most children are limited to drug therapy and are not prepared to cope with the base issues of an adult with ADHD . Parents , schools , and the medical community need to stop pushing for more drug therapy and start exploring others alternatives that don 't harm the children they 're trying to help
