The 360 degree feedback is a method by which an employee knows his standard and status in the organization through a performance feedback which he gets not only from his supervisor but also from about four to eight peers , co-workers , customers and reporting staff members . It is mainly based on behavior which is visible to the people performing the feedback . It is a great way to provide insight on the behavior and skills that the organization expects us to have to make customers more than happy . Through the 360

degree feedback a person can not only know but understand his strengths and weaknesses . This feedback like all other things has three sides : the good side , the bad side and the ugly side

The good side about the 360 degree feedback is that , firms who incorporate this system into their organizational structure have an edge over their rivals and this has been reviewed by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD . When this system has been incorporated efficiently and effectively it can help understand how workers view their work and since so many people are involved in the feedback process , every individual has to put in less time . Communication between team members increases as they are held accountable for one another . The needs of the personnel and the organization are better understood . This feedback is more reflective and accurate according to the employees and it makes the information they get in the form of feedback more useful The risk of being victim to discrimination is reduced as the feedback is based on the most recent interactions with the employee . With this performance feedback the employee can improve his performance and provide quality , reliability , be better at time management and understand the products and services well . The last aspect of the positive side of this 360 degree feedback is that training needs will become clear and these needs can then be analyzed and met through classes and short courses

After all there advantages of the system , there are some problems and complexities . There are many ways to implement this system and these ways can have an effect end result such as the usefulness , accuracy and the acceptance of the feedback . The data that should be generated from the people performing the appraisal should be reliable , it could be that the person is just trying to be nice , the raters are inexperienced and they can make mistakes when rating . Sometimes the organization has very high expectations from the process and when it doesn 't work out the same way they are highly disappointed . After the 360 degree feedback system has been incorporated , the need to have effective change management guidelines is even higher than any other change strategy that is adopted .
