12 Angry Men is about the struggle of 12 jury members in deciding the fate of an 18-year old boy who is charged for killing his father and how one juror convinced the others of the reasonable doubt ' of the boy 's guilt

It can be observed in the film that Juror 8 has an autocratic approach to leadership because he leads the other jury members to think over and over again about their decision of voting guilty ' against the boy . He persuades and convinces them without using force and violent outbursts instead he uses sound and thoughtful arguments and counter-arguments . His acts demonstrate his natural leadership approach He is also considered an emergent leader of the group because even if he is not appointed as foreman of the jury but he facilitates the discussion of doubtful issues of the case . He is an example of a good and effective leader who doesn 't use his power to persuade and convince people for his own means or personal intentions . On the other hand Juror 1 has a democratic approach to leadership . He manifests this when at the start of the deliberations , he asked the members of the jury to discuss things first and to vote or to have a preliminary vote and discuss things , which was what the group choose . He also tries to maintain authority as the foreman of the jury and to keep the deliberations formal though he is often placed behind the limelight with Juror 8 's leadership . He is considered the designated leader in the group

Each of the jury members has their own roles to play in the story as they deliberate their final verdict . Jurors 1 and 12 serve as initiators since they suggested actions the group will take to come up with a unanimous decision . Jurors 2 , 3 , 4 , 6 , 7 , 10 and 11 are considered the opinion givers because they only made decisions based on their opinions not on the facts . Juror 5 acts as an information giver especially when he corrected the misconceptions of many of the angle of the stab wound when using a switch blade . Juror 9 is the information seeker of the group . Most importantly , Juror 8 is the elaborator and coordinator of the group because he asks questions and prods the others to think deeply and critically
