Her freedom is taken away
from her , when her husband diagnosed her to be ill . This fact saddens
her the most , it and exacerbates her desolation . She keeps repeating the
phrase ``what is one to do ' over and over at the beginning of the
story indicating her sheer helplessness and inconsolable grief over her
fate .
Like a mad patient in an asylum , she is trapped inside her bedroom . As
